Boy & Bear Announce Autumn National Tour 24/2/2011
Sydney miners of folk-rock Boy & Bear will be on the Australian road again this Autumn for their very own national tour. After spending recent months abroad, Boy & Bear look to bring their rich harmonies and inspiring live show back to the intimacy of their native land’s venues. All major cities and a few lucky regional’s are in for some special Boy & Bear treatment.
Known for their warmth and stirring presence on stage, Boy & Bear recently left overseas audiences swooning. Following a stint at large theatre venues with friend Laura Marling in April, the band returned in December to sell out their own headline shows in Oxford, Brighton, Bristol and London.
But it’s the welcome arms of the Australian audience that keeps this group full of fervor. The success of the Blood To Gold national tour last October was truly humbling for the band. It sold out across the nation forcing the band to add second and third shows where possible to keep up with the demand. Last year’s release of Boy & Bear’s debut EP “With Emperor Antarctica" brought the band to the forefront of the music scene. The confident and richly rewarding body of work was Australia’s second highest selling physical EP in last year’s ARIA charts. They grabbed numerous accolades, not only taking out last year’s triple j’s Unearthed J Award, but also receiving a Rolling Stone Award for Artist to Watch last month.
Rolling Stone editor Dan Lander sings their praises, “There’s a sense of menace – danger almost – in their music: driving, urgent rhythms, snaking melodies and harmonies that are smoke, not sugar. On stage, in full flight, they’re breathtaking, somehow haunting and euphoric at the same time”. Boy & Bear’s gentle cover of the Crowded House classic ‘Fall At Your Feet’ also captured fans’ attention last year, sending the band all the way to #5 in triple j’s Hottest 100, the world’s largest music poll. Their own track ‘Rabbit Song’ was similarly loved by dedicated followers, voting it to #45 in the same Hottest 100, and the video to #8 in the RAGE FIFTY.
The past month has seen Boy & Bear concentrate on writing new material and soon they will be making their way over to the US to step into the studio with Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, White Stripes, The Shins). They will also play a few shows at this year’s South by South West Festival in Austin, Texas before heading back to Australia, all warmed up to show off their new wares at this Autumn national tour. And going by track record, you better snap up these tickets quick smart.Presented by triple j, Channel [V] and Street Press Australia
