The best LOSER in the world!!!
OK so I'm not even sure if this entry will be regarded... I know it's well past the competition entry period deadline (Jan 14) - but there's still a few hours til 5pm Jan 18 - which is the time and date everyone has been anxiously counting down to....waiting for their dreams to come true - or waiting to accept defeat (an anticipation that is both bitter and sweet)!
I just wanted a chance to say how much i enjoyed this comp... the excuse it gave so many of us to fantasise about travelling the world WORKING at music festivals...
Whilst I live in fantasy land most of the time - I'm never one to shy away from the truth - or from accepting ceratin 'realities'. I only just noticed that a public vote comes into the decision for the finalists.. and, with my awe-inspiring 15 profile views, this has cemented a 'reality' i never wanted to accept: I dont stand a chance in this comp!
I'm not pissed off though, because I honestly don't feel like a loser - or, if i am regarded as one - im inspired by a quote from one of my favourite artists (BJ from Green Day) - who once wisely said: "there's nothing wrong with being a loser - it just depends on how good you are at it!!"
On that note I'm going to be the BEST loser in the world!! Full of love and happiness for the popular bastards who win (with their 5 million profile views, shitting on my pathetic 15)!!
Lol - no sour grapes at all!! Well, maybe a little - anyone who says they're not going to be jealous of the finalists is full of shit. But whoever they are - I know they'll deserve it!! And I'm not kidding when I say I'll have plenty of love and happiness for them: love, happiness, jealousy - the whole lot! I mean, wow! Travelling the world for music festivals as a JOB - what a hot spot!!!
Though I can't really complain myself... I'm happy with my travels to date - I'm actually writing this on the communal computer in a backapackers hostel in Kuala Lumpa... trying not to be too loud on the keyboard as a bunch of fellow young travellers behind me are engrossed in one of my all time favourite films: Babel.
I'm actually on my way to the Philippines (rest assured I'll be back by Feb 13 though - just in case something comes up hehehe)!! Whilst in the Philippines, I'll be touring around with Miss Philippino-Australia 2009 - hopefully capturing some good footage for a documentary I am passionate about producing. I would love to showcase all the amazing charity work she'll be doing - and hopefully inspire others to do good too!! Her name is Megan McKee and she's actually a very close family friend lol
Whilst her title may seem like a joke - it's genuine and she earnt it fair and square! She raised $9000 for the Filipino-Australia Foundation of QLD (FAFQ) - and in a few days she'll be putting that money towards developing a primary school in her mother's home villiage! I'd love to bring this to the screen - and have the BEST song in mind - The Apl song (by the Black Eyed Peas).
This explains my recent fetish with the Black Eyed Peas, whom I talk about extensively in my 'music that speaks beyond language' blog. A member of the band (Apl) is half Filipino - and he has integrated his cultural heritage into many of their songs - including the appropriately named Apl Song (essentially his life story, which details his childhood in the Philippines: "some would call it hell but to me it was heaven)! He has a charity called the Apl Foundation - aimed at helping kids in the Philippines. I'm always inspired by artists using their popularity for worthy causes!! Would love to somehow contribute to it with this doco...
ANYWAYYYY the point of this blog was to say farewell and thank you: thank you to my world tour for providing this amazing opportunity.
Whislt wishing the winners well and thanking the competition providers are important parts of being a good loser - another one is being able to look back and say that you've taken something positive from the experience - and that's something I can say with a smile in this case.
Loser is a harsh word - and I don't mean to call all those who don't win a derogatory thing - it's just me being a bit of a punk wannabe I guess you could say - motivated by BJ from Green Day!! hahaha
But seriously, I've loved every bit of what entering in this comp has allowed: sifting thru old festival memories, freely expressing observations in blogs and seeing all the intimidatingly talented people I'm up against in this dream job that's up for grabs!!
I honestly wish the winners well and look forward to seeing the awesomeness that they will undoubtedly bring to getmusic.com!! All the best and so long!!! Or "bahala-na" as they say in good spirit in the Philippines, essentially it means "come what may!"
Before I sign off for good, I feel I should point out that whilst I'm happy with being a 'loser' - I'd still obviously LOVE to win (or be a finalist) - all of us do - u gotta be in it to win it! I guess I was put off a bit by the public vote thing since my profile views are so low.. but I'm hoping that my blogs will still be read - and that in them you'll see all the passion in my heart and head!! My profile views may be low coz I haven't been able to devote as much time as I would've liked to interacting (I wish I could have - I explain it all in my blogs).
I still believe I'm the best candidate for the job - I've had experience interviewing and presenting on TV in the UK, years of festival-going experience, a law degree, a communications degree AND I'm only 23!!!
But, come what may! Thank you was all I really wanted to say. Only one phrase to finish on now - after that I'll stand up from the computer and take a bow: Bahala na!! May all the contenders pursue their dreams and go far!!! xxxxxx
