The band, not the place, have once again stolen my heart, and this time by ditching their LA style of Punk and embraced Mariachi music and if you're not a fan of punk or hard core, then it will take their first single 'Cell Mates' to make you realise that these guys have hidden talent, actual talent.
El Bronx is a far cry from the Bronx that you may (or may not) know, listening to it now, it just makes me happy, I'm not sure if it's the horns, or the Spanish guitar or what? But it's all good and bring it on.
I cannot think of another band other than the Beastie Boys who made such a radical change in recent years of genre. Similar to The Bronx, the Beastie Boys were a punk outfit who evolved (?) into the hip-hop outfit who we have now. However, El Bronx is not a continued stream of music, they will return to their punk roots. But even if they don't I like it AND that's just punk.
And as a side note I would like to add that from Friday I will not have any posts up until Monday arvo or so because I will be attending Southbound Festival, so lots of reporting and if you are attending let me know.
