I know 2009 has come and gone but I can't help reliving the 'magical music memories' that made my year. I had travelled around America for the first time in 09 and discovered a variety of acts. I went to my first o18's music festival and learned the meaning of 'supergroup'. Here is my overplay of 2009 even though some are from years way before 09 I discovered them in 09 so that’s where they will stay:
Travelling around the U.S.A I was feeling rather homesick, whilst sitting on the roof deck of a friends swanky apartment/villa in Miami I started listening to The Vines, then The Cat Empire therefore these songs always take me back to sitting there watching cruise ships pull in & out of the harbour
In San Fran, I was mesmerized by the 3 storey level Virgin Music store. Needless to say I spent about 3 hours browsing and looking at all the CDs, I finally settled with the Gossip Girl Soundtrack & Ladyhawke. Before you start writing me off I AM a girl therefore am allowed to like girlie things and secondly that soundtrack was the epiphany of my 09. It introduced me to The Virgins and brought me to my first taste of The Kills. 'OMGG' aka Oh My Gossip Girl was not some cheesy C'mon Barbie Lets Go Party CD it had smooth tracks and although not all of them tickled my fancy I was in the USA and had to embrace the lifestyle ;)
I also found the marvels of The Last Shadow Puppets, I had their album on my iPod but hadn't really given them a chance. Whilst driving through majestic hills and sandy beaches en route to LA I discovered why this band was so good. I only save these tracks for special occasions when I want to remind myself of driving around the US. I had them on repeat for the whole drive therefore every lyric has been etched in my mind with images of deer running around and driving past signs that say 'Warning Rock Slides'.
Later in the year I found out that my dear Alison (Mosshart) was teaming up with Mr White amongst others to create a 'supergroup' I wasn't familiar with the term and thought it was quite amusing that they had been labelled such a thing. However as soon as I got my hands on Horehound I quickly realized why they had been conned super. The music was in your face and got me listening to a genre I didn't really listen to before. It also opened me up to artists such as The Horrors.
Finally my album of the whole of 09 was Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. My mum had bought it for me in 2008 for a Christmas present. I was surprised she even knew I liked the FF let alone more surprised when I found out how amazing the tracks were. The Franz had moved away from their guitars and started playing with electro beats and pots and pans (you can hear it in Lucid Dreams). This album was constantly played throughout 09 and is now being played in 2010 as I write this.
I was also into:
Arctic Monkeys- Humbug
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz
JET- Shaka Rock
The Filthy Youth
Kings Of Leon
2009 was an amazing year for me and an amazing year for music. I think this just might be my last post on MWT so if it is have a good life all and I hope you win...next to me :)
Kisses 09 & Bonjour 10.
