Today's encounter with the legendary Daryl Braithwaite
The perks of working in radio are endless - you get to work with some extremely talented folks, you're inundated with free goodies from clever marketing executives, you get to be at the breaking edge of news and gossip - and above all, you get to meet all the big celebs as they promote their movies, books, tours and egos...
So I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the best - The Hulk, Ric Flair, Ernie Dingo, Masterchef's Matt Preston and an assortment of well-kept sporting personalities just to name a few...
But the celeb to take the cake would have to be Daryl Braithwaite!
Ok, ok - so I'm a few decades too young for the Sherbet phenomenon - but you can't tell me that you haven't sung along to Horses, linked in arm with your mates at the end of a great night out (and held that final note - 'I'll pick you up, pick you UUUUUUUP')
So I'm in the studio - humming away in my own little existence - and in he walks. The man. Having announced my sugar daddy crush on him to the office prior, my colleagues decided it would be fun to keep his appearance a secret and simply embarrass me with far from subtle comments like 'Oooo, it's Daryl Braithwaite' and 'have you had a photo with him yet' - as you can see from the photographic evidence, the answer was yes... ha
Secret crush aside, he was a funny, down to earth guy with a passion for music. Whether the gig small of big, paid or for charity - he does it for the love. You know you've made it when you love your job.
