My Personal Thankyou to Michael Jackson
When I was 5 years old I remember my dad sitting me down infront of the record player and giving me my first lesson on his favourites. Amongst them were artists such as Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Black Sabbath, Queen (in particular Freddie Mercury)
Three Records I distinctly remember him handing me was "Off the Wall", "Thriller" and "Bad" . He said I could listen to them when ever I wanted too. That day I sat on the carpet upstairs for 5 hours straight listening to these records, barely even blinking. I demanded to have on repeat a particular song, "Man in the Mirror" (I have footage of this day on home video, dad threatens to play it on my 21st haha)
As a child, I did not know what this man looked like or even who this man was. All i knew was that I could not stop listening to these records as I was completely mezmorised by the music being played through my dads speakers. I can't begin to describe my response when I saw him dancing for the first time when dad brought home the Moonwalker Video a few weeks later.
These albums bonded me and my dad more then anything I can think of.
For anyone who still shows disrespect for Michael Jackson, I'd like you to all ask your selves the following questions.
- How much passion and understanding do you have for music?
- Why should ones looks or personal life contribute to their musical/entertaining ability?
- Really, how shallow are you?
He suffered ongoing pain and torture from his childhood. What gives you the right to judge his insecurities? Does he offend you in some way? Michael Jackson, after a 40 year career of public abuse, never spoke badly about anyone.
Anyone that can sell one million copies of one single album a week world wide is a legend. And the messages he would send through his music was a blessing from god.
I personally think Michael Jackson was an innocent man who was very confused in life. He was a man that had too much love to give, an amount that was so unfamiliar and unhuman that our society could not understand his ways, and so labelled him, time and time again.
This is a personal tribute and thankyou to Michael Jackson's Music and performances. Not a tribute to his face, not to the way he spoke to children or whether he was black or white.
Ths is a thankyou to that voice coming through my dads speakers. And the body moving on our television screen. You are a voice I will never forget. Thankyou Michael for all the happiness you brought me and my dad, to my family and friends and to the entire world.
May you finally find peace.
Sing and dance upon the clouds for all of eternity because down here, we will never stop loving you. Thankyou for loving us.
