I Heart Hiroshima 8/11/09
Supported by Last Dinosaurs at the Great Northern, Byron Bay.
How can one refuse?
I do like a band that has a uniqueness about them, and I heart Hiroshima most certainly does. I love a drummer who sings, or is she a singer who drums? Either way, it's awesome. Reminds me of Wally de Backer i.e Gotye, or 1/3 of the Basics. Not in a way of the same music, just in the way that they are so talented at doing both things so brilliantly well.
The Last Dinosaurs were a fun little poppy band, whom every little indie kid would mucho enjoy and bop to, or in me and Emma's case, run around wildly like a chicken with it's head cut off. I say one chicken. We are as one. We're married you know? Facebook says so, so it be official.
YAY IHH has begun. We stand right at the stage. This crazy chick is dancing. Screaming "GIVE ME THE SET LIST PUUHH-LEEASSEE". Crazy drunk people. Quite entertaining. Quite annoying. So I tune her out and tune into the genius guitar playing I've got going on directly in front of me. It inspired me to play my guitat again. Then I remember I just can't grasp the concept of it, and Chili Pepper riffs aren't REALLY worthy of telling people "yeah I play guitar", so I moved onto the keyboard - this I actually understand. So far only Cat Power and Christmas Carols, but I still say I HAVE a keyboard. This implies I play, but really, I'm just lame!
So back to the glorious moment. Yeah it was all good. A never-ending moment. Apparently a "moment" is one minute, thirty seconds long. I don't know why, but I think I made that up, cos I just know I know it but I have no idea how I know that. I'm guessing it was just my mind telling me things again. But still, let's pass on facts that I made up. Like Chinese Whispers! haha.
Wow, another tangent, tangents galore.
SO the show was coming to an end. I got really happy cos they played a song that I recognized from the radio earlier that day. I wanted to know who was singing it, but bloody Triple J wasn't gonna tell me! But it turned out to be that, so all was well in the world.
So all in all, I enjoyed it all thoroughly. We headed out into the main bar, only to see that it was almost FLOODING. The rain was so unexpectedly heavy. Lucky someone had parked near and gave us a lift to my car. But even in the two seconds running from one car to another we got SATURATED. It was quite chilly but the window was fogging up so we needed the bloomin' air con on!!!
So while freezing it up inside, the road was getting wetter and wetter and we were super scared to drive home. I went <60kph the whole way home, with crazy cars overtaking. I yelled at them "FINE YOU CAN DIE" cos seriously you couldn't go faster or you'd skid all over the road. <BR>
We finally arrived after a trip that took almost twice as long as it should, all wet, and worried cos Emma's boyfriend hadn't got home yet, and they left before us. But then BAM there he was. We went to bed. Good night.
