“The best hip hop act in the world” - It doesn’t get any bigger then this. After releasing the third album MORE the Resin Dogs have taken the world hip hop industry by storm receiving one of the highest accolades possible from The Document Room studios.
With their unique style and love of the industry their beats have been resonating throughout Australia and the UK for the past 10 years. However, it is time to take to the US says DJ Katch, “we are definitely going to take our own Aussie style with us…our third album is more mainstream so hopefully that will click with the American market.”
As a young hip hop lover growing up in Brisbane when asked if he always wanted to be global hip hop phenomenon DJ Katch modestly replied “I knew I wanted to do something in music…I didn’t realize that by creating some beats I would start touring nationally and the internationally… I thought I would just be playing in the clubs and hopefully doing a radio show and maybe striking it luck every now and then”
DJ Katch attributes the Resin Dogs success to their unique style “we surprised people, we did something different… we were a full band not just a DJ” Although Katch believes it’s not only about the beats you write but how you deal with people in the industry “It pays to be nice to people…it really does.”
Yet despite their success like any good musician DJ Katch has never forgotten his roots “I love coming home…we used to host small nights up in Brisbane with friends and artists we would just invite…watching it grow from a room where 250 people could fit into going to room where 15 000 people could fit into.. Watching that shit go down was a mind blowing experience.”
When asked if there was a highlight gig for Resin Dogs, Katch reminisced from shows all over the globe, from venues in Ireland where their band couldn’t fit on stage to playing in front of 25 000 in the Czech Republic, however, he paid particularly close attention to their gigs in Japan “We would come on in between heavy metal bands that sound like they are a cross between Korn and Cypress Hill… but by the third gig we would have people coming to see this “hip hop band from down under that doesn’t sound check.”
The Resin Dogs head off to the US in March to have a weekend at the “The Document Room” studios working with people who have produced the likes of Jay Z, Gwen Stefani, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and other international artists. It is not only the recording that Katch is hyped about, the Dogs will be treated like rock star royalty with their own private beach and gold cart service. Still DJ Katch feels the Resin Dogs have more to prove “Haha nah I haven’t made it man… until I can pay off my house in cash… then I haven’t made it!”
