How do you feel about the outbreak of other young bands (test icles, the arctic monkeys etc)? What do you think is causing the sudden influx? Do you think it‘s a generational thing or is somehow connected to the Internet?
I think the outbreak of young bands is due to the fact that music is a big part of our society and is easily accessible by people these days. Being in a band is not something that is impossible to people these days it is becoming a realistic opportunity each day. Now we don't have specific genres to fill there are many that exist and there are many more to be created, ultimately there are no boundaries for music anymore you can do whatever you want and you might just interest someone. It is somehow connected to the internet as well with bands making their songs available by putting them up for download and gaining exposure which in turn gains fans, creates a buzz and gathers interest from many people...
How do you feel about the local music scene?
Personally I think that The Gold Coast music scene could be better. It's not terrible but it's not awesome either. For one we need more venues and venues that can cater for all ages. This can be achieved but everyone that wants the local scene to develop needs to help out, it will build in time but there is work to be done. It can be achieved though.
Do you think you have enough opportunity to break into the local music scene?
Yeah I think we have a good opportunity to break into it but maybe not enough, we need more venues that are available for all ages shows but we will keep playing shows until we break into it so opportunity does exist.
Do you think the 'scene' is too separated my genre?
Definitely. There are whole different scenes within the scene. But I guess you will get that everywhere you go, it's just a matter of building relationships with the people and bands within it to make the scene come together a little more.
What are your plans for the future?
We want to be a band and play lots of shows and have a fan base and enjoy what we are doing. Getting signed to label is something we are aiming for and we know it takes a lot of hard work, but it's something we are willing to work at.
Where do you see Operator Please heading in the future?
To good places.
Does it piss you off when people call you cute? Do you feel reduced by this?
Not all the time, I think it works to our advantage mostly because they are kind of like "woah they are in a band and they are 15 - 17." But then again we get some people who just think we are cute and don't actually listen to our music properly or don't even give us a chance at all by labeling us as too young. So we don't feel reduced by this because we know we have confidence in our own capabilities and ultimately that's all we need.
