Exactly! What is Australian punk music? British punk made its debut during the 1970s in Australia, America and the UK. UK produced bands like the Sex Pistols and America made The Ramones, while Australia had the Saints and Cheap Nasties (Perth).
English Punk Music envisioned violence, rebellion and political statements, while American Punk was seen as noise and rebellion, minus the political stuff.
But what of the Australian Punk Scene? Were we just making noise? Venturing into the dark side of music and rock and roll? No, bands like the Saints have stated that made people want to hurt themselves. That's pretty intense!
Punk has always had a DIY approach, and more and more lately that stripped down, energetic, mistake ridden, and powerful energy seems to have all gone and been watered down.
Maybe it's our fault? We wanted too much too soon and got sick of it, or maybe we made it 'cool' and 'popular' exactly what punk isn't. Or maybe we just have nothing so say any more.
It [punk] all started when people decided what was named rock and roll at the time was boring, good, but boring. So punk was invented, so to speak.
And here we are now, back to different forms of revival, I think about 3rd wave now, a Post-Punk era in music terms and bands are getting back to that stripped down sound and energy, but do we have anything left to say?
