Thats right were going deep into the archives. This one is rather cringe worthy for me to read now. But we all started somewhere:
Published on ozmusiccentral.com.au in 2002:
Oz Music Central recently caught up with Shannon Wakefield, guitarist, songwriter and lead vocalist of Ruteger to talk rock, foxy boxing and of their most recent release, 'Just for you'
What's behind the name Ruteger?
Ruteger is a Simpson's reference from the episode 'Bart's inner child'. Also it's a Gun Used by the Navy Seals and a pet goat.
How did the band first come about?
I formed it in 1998 with Jamie we now have our 3rd drummer in Gav who's been in the band since 2000. We have had an organ player and now we have a guitarist Josh since 2001.
How would you personally describe your sound?
Heavy Power Pop sounding like The Beach Boys mixed with Foo Fighters and a dash of Buffalo Tom.
'Just for you' is the latest track; can you explain what it's about?
It's a straight up and down love song which I wrote due to being away from Loved ones on occasions.
What do you guys get up to away from the band?
Working and paying bills. Also organizing Foxy Boxing down at the local club. We all have input in how the night is run.
Which animal best describes your band?
The Turtle cause once we are on our backs we are fucked.
What do Ruteger view as the perfect gig?
Mad magazine Christmas party, free booze, magazines and also on the bill are Weezer and Guns and Roses. (With The Original Line-UP)
What's the worst rock star thing you've done?
Gav shit his pants recording drums for our 2nd album, which we are still working on. He followed through on a fart; we stopped production so he could shower up.
Do you have any pre-show traditions that we should know about?
I like to quote lines from any John Ritter film, Jamie eats beer out of ashtrays, Gav likes to go for a 12KM run, 40Km Bike ride and 35Km swim and Josh has a playboy in one had and his dick in the other.
What are you listening to at the moment?
June Of 44 - Four Great Points among others. I could have said Foo Fighters, Weezer etc.
Ruteger have been compared to the likes of Motorace and Pollyanna, how does that feel?
Well both bands are successful we ain't. Pollyanna heaps of bands stole their riffs etc so they must be good. Motorace are heard everywhere it's great it we could be.
What can fans expect from a Ruteger show?
Four guys pouring out their hearts in the hope people will not walk out the door of the venue.
Your present label has introduced the likes of John Butler Trio, Iota, Darren Hanlon and the Whitlams to the world, so where do Ruteger see MGM taking them 5 years down the track?
To a major label cause we are ready to sell out, and leave the underground.
