Everyone has one gig that sticks in their mind as one of the best gigs they've ever been to. In my time I've seen a lot of bands, in small towns with smaller pubs or arena spectaculars with el epico bands.
But the one gig that sticks in my mind as one of the best I've ever been to was on a cold April night in Barwon Heads.
As you may have read I interviewed Ballarat band Epicure and was invited to come along and watch them play at the Barwon Heads pub. I was excited because I'd loved their first album 'The Goodbye Girl' but never seen them play live.
When I rocked-up I swear there was about 12 people in the entire establishment. 12! We could barely drum up a cricket team if the situation called for it...and I'm not sure why it would. Needless to say Epicure rocked my socks, playing a much better live set than I was expecting considering the size of the crowd.
What made it memorable though was the unassuming young man sitting in the corner with his gorgeous girlfriend...none other than Geelong hard man Max Rooke. He's an odd unit Max, and I shouldn't have been surprised that he was one of the 12 people there because he's not like other footballers. He just seems to have a real pop culture side to him. My man crush was strengthened.
So, if you're reading this and you've got this far, which I doubt has happened, I want to know about your favourite gigs, why they were great and why you remember them so vividly. Bring it on!
