I am uber excited about the upcoming release of 'Where The Wild Things Are' coming to cinemas on December 3. I have fantastical fond memories of this book as a child and all I wanted was to be like Max. I still do.
The soundtrack has been released and is created by Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Big Fan. Reading reviews of the film and that of the Soundtrack I was hell bent on having a listen for myself. And I'm so glad I did. It's Beautifully pure and I've fallen in love with it.
Karen has enlisted some indie friends to assist her in the project such as fellow Yeah Yeah Yeahs band members Nick Zinner and Brian Chase and Queens of the Stone Age's Dean Fertita and many more collaborators including a whole bunch of cute little kids! Like the movie the soundtrack is a perfect mix of Adult and Child and is pure bliss to listen to! It's acoustic but electric and it's such a beautiful juxtaposition. There's an element of Kimya Dawson (Juno soundtrack) and a lil bit of Flaming Lips Joy to it and it simply works.
Although there is still quite a few instrumental pieces that I'm sure tie in ever so beautifully with the images Spike Jonze has created the package of this Soundtrack is sensational to just kick back and listen to.
Monsters, Children, Karen O, Spike Jonze, you have all created a little bit of joy and harnessed that inner child in all of us.
