Generation Y. What are we known for? Not caring, being unreliable, palming off our problems and especially not having enough time to see anything through. It is this last characteristic that has opened the gates to a whole new fast paced fun DJing into the mainstream.
DJ's having been mixing songs since they worked out how to spin their decks but never so vigorously. Revolutionary (yes it's a massively bias view) artist Girltalk has over 100 pending lawsuits for copyright infringements attributed to his latest album 'Feed The Animals'. Other great mashup DJ's you can search are E-603 and Melbourne duo Naysayer & Gilsun who play out of WOW! in the city and have recently been added to the Falls festivals over the New Year!
So why do we love them, because these days we don't have time to listen to one song all the way through. We would much rather hear a verse of a rap from Jay-Z with a nice wicked from the Chili Peppers and a phat beat backing it up.
If you're into this kind of music check out the artists above. The picture is from Girltalk's sideshow at Prince in Melbourne this Jan, one of his trademarks is he let's people on stage to boogie as all he needs is his laptop. It got pretty hot in there and on a number of occasions I almost drowned in sweat, truth.
